English Version
The Herald Square Hotel can be a good option to stay in New York, USA. Its exceptional location is its best value. It is located in the 31st Street, about 500 metres away from the Empire State Building. The closest metro station is de Green Line in 33rd Street, about 300 metres away. If our arrival airport is JFK, we can take the Long Island Rail Road train - LIRR - to Penn Station, and from there we can walk for about 12 minutes to reach the hotel.
The instalations deserve some refurbishment work, specially the corridors and other accesses.
In our case, the room was quite big, but as it had 2 queen beds, there was not too much space left to move easily.
The room was clean, although the first morning we found some ants. The floor is covered by a carpet.
The bathroom was quite wide although a little bit old, specially the water taps of the bathtub. The shower had not enough preasure ( probably because we were in the ninth floor ).
The rooms have a wardrobe ( with an ironing machine and its table to iron if needed ). In front of the beds we can find a shelf and below there is a small safe.
In one of the corners we can find a pair of chairs.
There is a plasma TV although a little bit old. At least it offers several cable tv channels. There is also a DVD player. WiFi is available in the rooms ( an access code is needed to be requested in the reception ).
Unfortunately there are no coffee or tea making facilities present in the room.
There is an Air Conditionned system in the room. It is not very powerful but good enough to cope with the humid and hot weather in New York in august. As we were staying in the ninth floor, with views to a service terrace, the room have not a good ventilation.
From our room it was possible to see the Empire State Building.
Depending on the hour, the staff of the hotel is more helpful and polite than in other periods of the day.
There is no breakfast service in the hotel although in the reception it is possible to use a machine to prepare tea or coffee. In any case, close to the hotel, there are several places to have a good breakfast for a very good price ( I would recommend you "Bread & Butter", located in the corner of 5th Avenue with 31st Street ).
In case we need to make use of a computer to print something or to do the checkin of our next flight, the service should be paid with credit card. If you want to leave your suitcases in deposit while visiting the city, you also need to pay ( although the price is 1 dollar per suitcase ).
From my point of view, this hotel has a good quality-price relationship ( Example: 3 Nights, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 438,70€ at www.booking.com ).
If I had to stay in New York again, I would probably look for a newer hotel if the price deserves it, although it will be really difficult to find a similar hotel considering its great location.
